Assassin's Creed II: The Epic Story
1. The Modern Escape
The story begins immediately after the first game. Protagonist Desmond Miles escapes the Templar-controlled Abstergo Industries with the help of Lucy Stillman. They flee to a secret warehouse to meet a team of modern-day Assassins.
To train Desmond quickly, they place him in the Animus 2.0 to relive the life of a new ancestor: Ezio Auditore da Firenze.
2. A Tragedy in Florence
In 1476 Renaissance Italy, Ezio Auditore is a charismatic and wealthy 17-year-old nobleman. His life is destroyed when his father and two brothers are falsely accused of treason and publicly executed.
Ezio discovers his father was a secret member of the Assassin Brotherhood. He takes up his father's hidden blade, sends his mother and sister to safety, and swears a blood oath of vengeance against the conspirators.
3. The Journey of Vengeance
Over the next two decades, Ezio transforms from an angry youth into a skilled Master Assassin. His journey takes him through the stunning cities of Florence, Venice, and Forlì.
He is aided by historical figures, most notably Leonardo da Vinci, who crafts advanced weapons for him, including the dual Hidden Blades and the Flying Machine.
4. The Grand Master
Ezio eventually uncovers that the man behind the conspiracy is Rodrigo Borgia ("The Spaniard"), the Grand Master of the Templar Order. Borgia seeks to unite two ancient artifacts—the Apple of Eden and the Papal Staff—to unlock a legendary Vault containing god-like power.
5. The Shocking Truth
The story culminates in 1499 at the Vatican. Rodrigo Borgia has become Pope Alexander VI. Ezio defeats the Pope but spares his life. He enters the Vault and finds a hologram of a woman named Minerva (from an ancient civilization).
Minerva ignores Ezio and speaks directly to Desmond across centuries. She warns of a future cataclysm and tells Desmond, "The rest is up to you." The game ends as Desmond wakes up, realizing his destiny is just beginning.
